White moves first. Captures are forced; chain jumps continue automatically. Pieces reaching the far row become kings (★) and move both directions.
About Checkers
English draughts — also known as American checkers — in your browser. Play against the AI or pass the device for two-player hot-seat. Standard rules apply: forced captures, kings move both directions, multi-jumps when the position allows. The board is the familiar 8×8 grid with twelve pieces per side.
Pondernook checkers is intentionally simple: no accounts, no ratings, no progression — just a quick game when you want one. Three minutes per session is a normal play length. Beginners can practice forced-capture sequences against the easy AI; experienced players can hunt for tempo and king-row breakthroughs against the harder one. Plays on any modern browser including mobile.

It becomes a king, marked with a star, and can then move and capture both forwards and backwards.
Can I play with another person?
