About Snake

Snake is one of the oldest arcade games on the planet — first appearing on mainframes in 1976 and going truly global as the killer pre-installed game on Nokia phones in the late 1990s. The rules have not changed in fifty years and that is the point: steer a growing line around a grid, eat the dots, do not run into the walls, do not run into yourself.

Pondernook Snake is the pure original. No power-ups, no missions, no level cards — just one board, one score, one best run. Plays in your browser with no install. Arrow keys on desktop, swipe on mobile. Best score is kept locally on this device. Perfect for a one-minute reset between work blocks: the rule set is so small that you stop thinking about controls and just play.

Frequently asked questions

How do I control the snake?

Use the arrow keys on desktop or swipe on the board on mobile. Eat the dots to grow the snake longer.

How does the game end?

The run ends the moment you hit a wall or run into your own tail — and the snake gets longer, and harder to steer, with every dot you eat.

Is my high score saved?

Your best run is kept locally on the device. There are no power-ups or levels: just one board and one score to beat.
